Road crashes are the biggest killer of 17-25 year olds in the UK, so in an effort to combat this, the My Small Change campaign asks young and pre-drivers to pledge a small change that will inspire other young drivers or passengers and help save lives.

Since September 2021, the tour has visited nearly 50 schools and colleges in Essex, Southend and Thurrock. Hundreds of students have enjoyed watching the 12 virtual reality films on offer and 11 lucky pledgers were given Amazon vouchers as a thank you for inspiring their friends with their road safety commitment.

Naomi Woodruff, Road Safety Technician for SERP, said: “We’ve had such positive feedback on the campaign so far. The young drivers we’ve spoken to have been genuinely interested in how they can stay safe on our roads and it’s been a pleasure offering advice to them.

“It is so important to keep the momentum going with the campaign as this audience is crucial to our ambition of having zero deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads.

“If you have a young or pre-driver at home, please discuss road safety with them and share our campaign materials. They may want to join the 1,090 existing pledgers we have as part of the campaign and be in with the chance to win some great prizes. We want to get to a place where road death is no longer accepted by most as inevitable because it isn’t. Together we can achieve Vision Zero.

“Thank you to all the colleges for their continued support. We hope to get out and about in town centres and to attend local events soon.”
